The Nucleo Operativo Centrale di Sicurezza (NOCS), nicknamed the 'Teste di Cuoio' (Leatherheads), is the elite tactical unit of Italy's State Police, formed in 1978. It handles counter-terrorism, hostage rescue and the highest-risk law-enforcement operations.
The NOCS earned worldwide fame in 1982 for the flawless rescue of kidnapped U.S. General James Dozier from the Red Brigades.
