Senior Chief Petty Officer Douglas “Mike” Day was a US Navy SEAL who survived being shot 27 times during a 2007 room-clearing raid in Iraq. Hit by rifle and pistol fire and a grenade blast, he killed the insurgents in the room, walked himself to the medevac helicopter — and lived.
He served 21 years in the Navy, then devoted himself to helping wounded veterans and those living with PTSD. He died in 2023.
